Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a list of our most frequently asked questions. Please click on the question to view the answer. If you have a question that is not answered here then please contact us and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

  • What should I wear?

Casual dress is fine. A good rule of thumb is to dress how you would if you were hanging out with some of your friends. There is no dress code, just be you.

  • What are small groups?

Small groups are exactly what they sound like. Groups of people (5-15) meet together in various homes throughout the week and hang out, talk about how they're doing, talk about what God is doing in their lives, study the Bible or other books that teach us about God, sing worship songs, and pray for each other.

We believe that small groups are a necessary component of doing "church" because this is where we can build deeper friendships and take the time to talk more intimately about the difficult or the joyful things going on in our lives. Small groups nurture the kind of friendships that a bigger church service could never foster simply because of the difference in size. You can find meeting times and locations on our Calendar.

  • What if I'm not a Christian?

No problem, we don't push our beliefs on others or make people believe something that they don't want to. We understand that there are lots of people who are curious about God and just want to learn more about Him. We welcome people who are seeking God or have questions about Him.

  • Why start another church?

We serve a God of diversity. It was His idea to make everyone different. That is what is so beautiful about having so many different kinds of churches. For instance, not everyone likes the same kind of music, style of clothing, or has the same kind of interactive relationships. If God made people so different, why would the churches all look the same? People need to worship God in a manner they are comfortable with. As the Vineyard Church in Lawrence, we are hoping to capture the hearts of people who want to express their love for God in creative music, casual atmosphere and deep personal relationships with other people.

  • What is a church plant?

A church plant is when an existing church sends out a team of their members (usually people in leadership) to begin another church. The planters of the Vineyard Church in Lawrence were sent from the Vineyard Church of Davenport in Davenport, Iowa. This church plant has begun due to our desire to reach people living in Lawrence, Kansas with God's love, regardless of their current lifestyle or ideas.

The Vineyard Church in Lawrence, is led by Rob and Jen Martin.

  • What is the Vineyard?

Vineyard churches are part of a relatively young association called the Vineyard Community of Churches which you can read more about at www.vineyardusa.org.
