Haskell Indian Nations University is a two and four year college for Native Americans in southeast Lawrence. Haskell students come from all fifty states and over 100 Indian Nations. Getting to know these students has been very fun.
We are involved with Haskell in two ways. First, Vineyard Church is a member of the Haskell Interfaith Council. The council collectively reaches out to the students and faculty through helping with new student orientation, Student Graduation Dinner, Faculty Appreciation Breakfast and other events. Our pastor, Rob Martin, is the Vice President of the council for school year 2007-2008.
Additionally, Vineyard Church performs servant evangelism outreaches. Servant evangelism is sharing God’s love to others in a small, but tangible way. Sometimes this is through giving something simple, such as a cold pop or water prior to a hot football game or handing out things useful to students such as laundry detergent and microwave popcorn. Last year we hosted a game night in a dorm lobby. It was fun to spend some time with students, playing cards, etc., and creating new relationships.
